We believe the children are our future...

At Our Place we believe each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. We will empower children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. We will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own creative ideas.

Teach them well and let them lead the way...

At Our Place our role as professional teachers is to give children the opportunity to build trust in themselves and others through loving and respectful relationships with adults and peers. To achieve this goal, we will teach to the needs of each child so they will believe in themselves as capable learners. We will reflect the strands, principles and guidelines of Te Whariki that links to the interests of all children and make learning relevant to their lives. Every child will be enriched in an environment which acknowledges and incorporates the dual heritage of the Treaty of Waitangi. To achieve this, teachers will incorporate it around the curriculum areas, through themes, cultural celebrations, projects, support and communicate with parents, guardians, extended Whanau from all different cultural backgrounds, wider community, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to allow children to be active learners.

Show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride...

At Our Place it will be a loving, caring, and safe, environment where each child can grow. We believe in the values of love and respect for everyone and everything irrespective of age, gender or culture. We will allow children to become responsible members of our centre environment by using strategies such as Whanau meetings, positive discipline, and democratic principles. We will teach and show children how to become responsible for themselves as well as their own learning. At Our place we want to provide children with quality teaching and learning to become successful achievers with all the beauty they possess inside, to believe and love themselves.

Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be...

Teaching is a lifelong learning process of reflecting and learning about new strategies, learning from the parents, extended families and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the children. Children teach us to open our minds and our hearts to the joys, the innocence, and the diversity of ideas in the world. Because of this, we will always smile with the new, cherish the old, and laugh with the children.
